Dr. Darin Detwiler is an internationally recognized and respected food policy expert with over 25 years’ experience in shaping federal food policy, consulting with corporations, contributing thought leadership to the food industry, and addressing food safety and authenticity issues in the U.S. and abroad.

  • International Association for Food Protection's 2022 Ewen C.D. Todd Control of Foodborne Illness Award 

  • International Association for Food Protection's 2018 Distinguished Service Award 

  • Member (twice appointed) the USDA’s National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection

  • Served as the senior policy coordinator for a national food safety organization

ACADEMIC:

Dr. Detwiler is an award-winning educator with nearly 25 years of experience across many disciplines.  He is an Associate Teaching Professor of food regulatory policy at Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies and the Lead Faculty of the Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs of Food and Food Industries, where he has specialized in food safety, global economics of food and agriculture, corporate social responsibility, Blockchain, and food authenticity.  

  • Honoree: 2022 Northeastern University President’s Academic Honors Convocation “Celebrating faculty who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, research, and teaching”

  • Northeastern University College of Professional Studies 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award

As a high school and middle school teacher for 16 years, Detwiler taught Math, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, History, and more.​
